WORKSHOPS / EXHIBITIONS / FETES
HOME OF COTSWOLD FLAX GROWING/PROCESSING
Flaxland hold regular one day workshops throughout the year. We can accommodate from 1 person up to 12 people. Generally the day follows an agenda: coffee and introductions; what you would like to achieve from the day. Then depending on the time of year we take visit to the Flax growing field where we discuss the growing of flax; weed control; growing season; when to harvest depending on what your requirements are; the retting process; drying and storage We then go through all the processes of working the flax - rippling, breaking, scutching - first you will be shown how all these processes are done then you work through some flax making use of all of our hand built tooling. A light lunch is then served and this gives a chance to have a look at our many reference books and supplies and also to ask all those questions you may have on flax. After lunch, it's back round to the flax barn to do some hackling on your worked flax. Once the hackling is complete we put the long line fibre to one side for you to take home and work on your tow to produce some twine - again to take home with you.
Prices include all instruction; materials; beverages; light lunch. We also supply PPE for use during the day. We ask that stout shoes and leg coverings are worn.
An alternative to coming to Flaxland (based near Tetbury in the Cotswolds) is getting a group together (upto 6) and a suitable venue and we come to you. As well as course charges, expenses would also be charged.
|Cost for one person booking -£75.00 - bring some friends and the price per person reduces.|
